Notion integration

Setting up syncing notes to a Notion database, and customising how they appear.

Connecting Notion lets you create a Notion page from a meeting note in one click. Notes are saved to a dedicated database Pulse creates when you connect, and at present the only supported action is sharing one note at a time. Automatic and bulk syncing are not supported.

Note

Connecting and sharing are done from the desktop app (macOS / Windows). An authorisation screen opens in a browser partway through, so be signed in to Notion with the same email address as Pulse before you start. Only notes whose AI-enhanced note has been generated can be shared.

Notion is operated by a provider other than UNCHAIN, Inc.. Points worth checking before sending a note are covered in Sharing notes.

Connecting

  1. Open connectors in settings

Open settings from your avatar at the bottom left, then open Connectors and choose Notion.

  2. Connect Notion

Connect Notion and a browser opens with the authorisation screen.Next.

  3. Choose the template option

On the authorisation screen, choose Use a template provided by the developer. Selecting a specific page is not supported, so any other option leaves the connection incomplete.

  4. Check the connection

Once connected, Notion appears in the ⋯ (three-dot) menu at the top of a note.

  5. Share a note

Choose Notion from the three-dot menu and that note is saved to your personal Notion database.

Check
  • Connectors → Notion in settings shows as connected
  • Notion appears in the three-dot menu on a note
  • after sharing one as a test, a page has been created in the Notion database

Customising the display in Notion

Notes from Pulse are saved only to the dedicated database created when you connected. You cannot specify another location in Notion as the destination from Pulse's side.

Within that database you can:

  • reorder the columns
  • sort by date, title and so on
  • add columns
  • rename a document after it has been imported

You cannot:

  • rename the column headings
  • delete existing columns
  • save directly to another location in Notion. To have them appear elsewhere as well, use Notion's “Link to page” to reference the database's pages

Where you want minutes listed on a page per project, keeping the actual pages in this database and linking to them from each project page is easier to manage.

Not supported at this time

Item Status Alternative
Bulk sync there is no way to send several notes to Notion at once share them one at a time from the note's share menu
Automatic sync notes are never sent to Notion automatically achievable with the Zapier integration (see the next paragraph)
Changing the destination nowhere other than the database created at connection can be the destination sort and add columns on Notion's side, and reference pages with links where needed

To send to Notion automatically, use the Zapier integration. Set adding a note to a folder as the trigger and specify Notion as the action app. Notes added to that folder are then sent to Notion automatically. How to create folders is in Spaces and folders.

Troubleshooting

Q. The “Save to Notion” button is greyed out

A. The AI-enhanced note has to be generated before you can share. If it has not been, click regenerate or choose a template to generate it. For details see AI-enhanced notes.

Q. I get an error when I press “Save to Notion”

A. Check the following in order.

  1. Check you are signed in to Notion in the same browser with the same email address as your Pulse account. Mismatched accounts can produce a permission error.
  2. Disconnect under Connectors → Notion in settings and connect and authorise again.
  3. If a specific error message appears, note the wording and contact tharada@the-unchain.com.
Q. Formatting or content is missing from the note imported into Notion

A. Pulse sends the AI-enhanced note to Notion. Some formatting does not map directly onto Notion's block structure, so the appearance can change. Where content you need is missing, copy that part in Pulse and paste it into Notion. If you send a reproducible example to tharada@the-unchain.com it helps us improve the integration.

Q. The authorisation screen will not complete

A. Choosing anything other than Use a template provided by the developer on the authorisation screen leaves the connection incomplete. The same applies if you are signed out of Notion in the browser, or signed in with a different email address from Pulse. Check your signed-in state and retry the connection under Connectors → Notion in settings. If that does not resolve it, contact tharada@the-unchain.com with the details.
