Slack integration
Setting up automatic posting of meeting notes to Slack channels, and how private channels are handled.
Connecting Slack lets you post meeting notes to a channel without leaving Pulse. What is posted is the share link to the note and the body of the AI-enhanced summary. Because the summary is written into the message itself, changing the note's sharing setting to “private” in Pulse afterwards does not remove the already-posted summary text from Slack.
This integration supports posting to channels only. It cannot post to direct messages.
Slack channels can include shared channels with external participants (Slack Connect), and channels left as they were when someone who has since left was a member. Similar channel names are easy to confuse, and once a summary has been posted it cannot be retracted from Pulse. Particularly when posting notes from sales meetings, recruitment interviews or HR discussions, check the channel's members on Slack's side before sending. How to account for posting to channels with external members as handling of personal data is covered in Integrations overview.
Setting up the connection
- the Pulse desktop app (macOS / Windows)
- a Pulse account signed in with a Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 account. Consumer Gmail and Outlook.com accounts cannot be used
- the destination Slack workspace, and permission to add apps to it (ask your Slack administrator if you do not have it)
Open connectors in settings
In Pulse's settings (opened from your avatar at the bottom left), choose “Connectors”. Slack is in the list of services you can connect.
Connect the Slack workspace
Click connect on the Slack card and a browser opens with Slack's authorisation screen. Choose the workspace to connect and approve it, and the connection is made.
- Settings > Connectors > Slack shows the name of the workspace you connected
- a Slack item appears at the top right when you open a note
Posting a note to a channel
- Open the note you want to send and click Slack at the top right.
- Search for and choose the destination channel.
- Run it, and the link to the note and the summary are posted to that channel.

A search field for filtering by channel name, with the matching channels listed.
AI-enhanced notes can get names or small facts wrong, or summarise inadequately. Check the content before posting to a channel. If you have set up automatic posting, agreeing within the team how to correct an error found after posting (replying to the message with a correction, for instance) makes it easier to run.
Posting to a private channel
Private channels do not appear as options unless the Pulse app has been added to that channel. Satisfy these three conditions and then add the app to the channel.
- you are signed in to Pulse and Slack with the same email address
- you are a member of that private channel
- the Pulse app has been added to that channel
To add the app to a channel:
- Open the channel in Slack and type
/in the message field. - Choose “Add apps to this channel”.
- Add the Pulse app from the list.
- Go back to Pulse and search for that channel in the Slack posting dialog.
Once the app is added, that private channel becomes selectable as a destination from Pulse. The added app stays even as the channel's membership changes, so review periodically whether you are still posting to a channel whose members have turned over through transfers or departures.
Posting notes from a folder automatically
Notes added to a particular folder can be posted automatically to a channel you specify.
- Open the folder.
- Click the “Integrations” button in the folder header.
- Switch the Slack item on and choose the destination channel.
The integration settings opened from the folder header, with the Slack toggle and the destination channel selector.
Once set up, notes added to that folder are posted to the channel automatically.
Automatic posting covers only notes added to the folder after you switched the integration on. Notes already in the folder beforehand are not posted retrospectively. But once set up, posting happens with no confirmation step, so check when configuring it that the kind of notes going into the folder matches who can see the destination channel. Making a shared external channel the destination sends unintended content straight outside your company.
Link previews in Slack
Pasting a Pulse link into Slack can show a preview with the meeting title, attendees, date and an extract of the summary. Whether it appears depends on that note's sharing scope and on the “rich previews” setting under Settings > Connectors > Slack.
- Notes set to “anyone with the link” — a rich preview appears automatically, because Slack can retrieve the note without additional permission.
- Notes set to “within the workspace” or “private” — protected by default, showing only a generic placeholder.
To show meeting information for those links too, without changing the sharing setting, enable rich previews.
- Settings > Connectors > Slack.
- Under “Rich previews”, enable Show for my links. Previews then appear for private and internal-only links you share.
- A workspace administrator can enable Show for everyone's links, so that previews appear whenever anyone in the connected Slack workspace shares a protected link.
The first time you share a protected link in Slack, you may be asked whether to show rich previews. You can enable it there, or change it later in Pulse's settings.
Enabling rich previews means Slack participants without permission to open a note can still see its title, attendees and an extract of the summary. If links are pasted into channels with external members, consider limiting this to “my links” or revisiting the sharing scope itself.
If something is not working
Q. The Slack integration settings page hangs while loading
A. Your Pulse session may have expired. Sign out and back in, then open the integration settings again.
Q. The email addresses on Pulse and Slack have changed, or do not match
A. Both accounts have to use the same email address. If you changed it on Slack's side, disconnect and reconnect under Settings > Connectors > Slack and the new address is picked up.
Q. The “Send to Slack” button does not appear
A. Check two things.
- Settings > Preferences > Data and sharing, check that the default link sharing setting is something other than “private”. Changing this setting applies only to notes created afterwards.
- Check the AI-enhanced note has been generated. The “Send to Slack” button cannot be used before it has.
Q. Link previews do not appear
A. Check the following in order.
- that your Pulse and Slack accounts use the same email address.
- Settings > Connectors > Slack shows the integration as connected.
- where the note is “within the workspace” or “private”, that “show for my links” or the workspace-wide setting is enabled.
- if you are using “Send to Slack”, that the note is not set to “private”. That button needs a shareable link, and works differently from the link preview setting.
- that you are not checking an already-posted link. Slack caches link previews, so changing the setting does not update how past messages appear. Share a different note to check the new setting is working.
