Affinity integration
Setting up sending meeting notes to Affinity records, and what can be sent.
Connecting Affinity lets you send notes from sales and customer meetings to Affinity person and company records from within Pulse. All Pulse does is add notes; it never modifies or deletes notes already in Affinity.
Issuing and registering an API key
Connecting to Affinity uses an API key. An API key is tied to the account that issued it, so where several people in a workspace use it, each person should issue their own API key. Sharing someone else's key causes connection failures, or records in Affinity attributed to whoever issued it.
- the Pulse desktop app (macOS / Windows). Both the connection setup and sending are done from the desktop app
- an Affinity account, with permission to issue your own API key
Create an app in Affinity
Affinity and open “Settings” from the left-hand navigation.Developer Tools, click “Manage Apps” and choose “+ New App”.
Copy the API key
Enter a name for the app (for example Pulse). The description is optional. Click “Add App” and an API Key Created dialog appears. This key cannot be displayed again. Copy it while it is on screen.
Register the API key in Pulse
In Pulse's settings (opened from your avatar at the bottom left), choose “Connectors” and paste the API key into the Affinity field. What you enter is saved automatically.
The API key field and the connection status. With a valid key it changes to show as connected.
- Affinity shows as connected under Settings > Connectors
- Affinity appears among the sharing options at the top right when you open a note
An API key is a credential with access to your Affinity data. Do not paste it into chat tools, documents or source code to share it. If you suspect it has leaked, delete that app on Affinity's “Manage Apps” screen, issue a new key, and register it in Pulse again.
Sending a note to Affinity
Once connected, an Affinity item appears at the top right when you open a note. Sending is a manual, one-at-a-time action; this integration has no setting to send notes automatically when they go into a folder.
- Open the note you want to send and click Affinity at the top right.
- Matching person and company records are suggested, based on the email addresses of the calendar event's attendees.
- Review the suggestions and remove any you do not want. If a record is missing, you can search for and add it.
- Save, and the content is added as a note on the records you chose.
If there is no record in Affinity with a matching email address, no suggestion appears. Create the record in Affinity first and then send.
What is sent to Affinity is the content of the AI-enhanced note. It contains attendees' names and what was said, so check that the people who can see that record in Affinity match the people the meeting content may be shared with. How to account for sending to external services as handling of personal data is covered in Integrations overview.
If something is not working
Q. The integration will not connect
A. Check these two things.
- that you are signed in to Pulse and Affinity with the same email address
- that the API key you are using is your own. Keys issued by other users will not work.
Q. An integration that was working has suddenly stopped
A. Disconnect Affinity under Settings > Connectors and register the API key again. If that does not fix it, check whether the API key has been deleted on the Affinity side.
Q. I get “Something went wrong. Check your key or try again”
A. First check you are using your own API key — registering someone else's produces this error. It can also appear where your organisation as a whole has hit Affinity's API usage limit. If that seems likely, check with your team's administrator.
Q. It still does not work
A. Contact tharada@the-unchain.com. A screenshot or screen recording of the error makes the cause quicker to narrow down.
